A protein shake was always something that I glugged back after the gym and before lunch. Now they are all I have, their tailor-made combination of nutrients and the manner in which they are delivered is reassuring. It tells me that these supplements, they work. Before I was just too busy thinking about sandwiches to notice.
You would expect the vitamin C pill and the Centrum to pack the anti-scurvy equivalent of a fair few oranges. But upon closer inspection, everything else I ingested did, too. In total, on Tuesday, I got 2,511% of my recommended daily allowance of vitamin C, as stipulated by the EU. A 1,000mg vit-C pill contributes 1,250%, with another 125% from the multi-vit, 840% from the three vitamin-fortified protein shakes and a comparatively satsuma-esque 17% from the almost apologetic meal replacement. So, is that over 25 times better for you, or a lot worse?
